Agrounia1: traitors of the countryside, sockpuppet/Another day in the office, gloves of power
The knitted Jacquard shows a montage of a reworked nature and wildlife scene taken after medieval tapestry from royal collection from Krakow Poland, with an appropriated graffiti from the alt-right organisation that fought against the recent legislation banning the fur industry and leveling up animal welfare in Poland (November 2020). The knitted graffiti element says “Here works Pawel Papke (name of MP) traitor of the countryside”, and hundreds of MPs were marked in a similar manner, which reminds of fascist tactics from the past. The minority alt-right organisation Agrounia was is in fact connected to Russia and tried to deploy an anti-European narrative similar to the one used by N.Farage and Brexit agitators in the UK. The scene in the Jacquard to the right shows a rework of video frame transmitting with error (glitch) showing a press conference of Boris Johnson and Donald Trump. It was just after UK government lost a court case about the prorogation of parliament that was pursued to push through Brexit. It was a small success of the anti-Brexit movement and Donald Trump tried to cheer Boris Johnson up saying that his lost court case is “just another day in the office”. The mode of representation often used to depict historic scenes is showing a shameful historical scene. Also, the “poor image” of the video frame with a glitch is made rich again by rendition into Jacquard. The yellow frame in the Jacquard is a rework of an element of tapestry from the collection in Royal Castle in Krakow, Poland.
Acrylic and plastic jacquard knits, steel, arduino and electronics, 3d printed pla, 3d printed ceramics. November 2020.
