An optic liminality
This work uses two texts discussing hierarchy of belief systems and the liminal space of uncertainty between believing and not believing in something. One is my thoughts and the other is more contextual and references specific ideologies. By putting these texts alongside each other in this checkerboard pattern, there is a distance and stress for the viewer in not being able to read the texts, which is emphasised further by them moving in different directions creating a hypnotic image/ optical illusion. The intention in creating tension for the viewer is to put them in a liminal space, reading but not reading, understanding but not understanding, in a trance like state which, as the text degrades further becomes almost meditative, forgetting the existential struggle where we began.
